MAP AND COURSE:
FLEMING PARK (150 Dingle Rd, Halifax): A 1-hour score event has been created. You have 1 hour to go to as many controls locations as you can, in whatever order you like. The course covers the entire area of Fleming Park. Please use caution when crossing or following any roadways or parking areas. Please follow park rules and hours of operation.
OAKFIELD PARK (366 Oakfield Park Rd, Oakfield): A 1-hour score event has been created. You have 1 hour to go to as many controls locations as you can, in whatever order you like. Please use caution when crossing or following any roadways or parking areas. Please follow park rules and hours of operation.
McDONALD SPORTS PARK (280 Champions Way, Waverley): A 45 min score event has been created. You have 45 min to go to as many controls locations as you can, in whatever order you like. The point values vary for different controls and are marked on the map. A Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Point to Point course have also been created. For point to point visit the controls in the prescribed order, there is no time limit. If you are new to orienteering please starts with beginner and progress as you feel comfortable. A temporary out of bounds area has been added to the score and advanced maps (pink hatching). This area covers the biathlon shooting range. Note that the group posts signage closing one segment of trail immediately adjacent to the range, usually Saturday mornings. The shooters can be seen from the parking area.
The maps have been uploaded to the “Resources” tab (Maps). You can download and print the maps, and run the courses on your own schedule.
Please Note: Control locations will NOT be flagged in any way in the terrain, however the courses will be available on MapRun 6 (or you can still use Maprun F), a smartphone app for orienteering that allows you to load the course onto your smartphone, track yourself using GPS, receive notifications when you reach each control and upload and compare your results to others who have completed the course. This app works quite well in open areas. Under tree cover, you may need to wait a few moments near the control site for the unit to pick up GPS and notify you. [If it does not register controls that you have been to, you can contact Pam James through AVOC at ValleyOrienteering@outlook.com and she may be able to add you to the results.]
The maps and courses will be available until December 31, 2021.
