The 2019 Bluenose Classic Middle distance event will take place on Sunday, October 27th at Long Lake Provincial Park at 799 St. Margaret's Bay Road (SMBR) parking lot.

Parking: there is limited parking at the SMBR parking lot, additional free public parking can be found at 1311 Prospect Road, parking is also permitted along SMBR as signage indicates (all tires must be off the pavement).

Transit: Halifax Transit route 22 stops in front of the SMBR parking lot.

Registration: Please pre-register on this page or by email to Jared Goad at (jgoad@recreationns.ns.ca) by October 22, 2019. Please include full names, course/category, and SI number (or rental) for all individuals entering. Event day registration will be available from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.

If this is your first event of the year or you have not yet paid for the event or you are not pre-registered you must go to registration at the carpool parking lot at 1311 Prospect Rd before proceeding to the event check-in a the SMBR parking lot.

If you have previously submitted a waiver form for 2019 and are pre-registered and are paid (from Saturday’s event) you may proceed to event check in at SMBR parking lot.

NOTE: A limited number of maps will be available on race day. Please pre-register to prevent disappointment.

Discount of $5 for those who pay for both events at the 2-person Relay on Saturday Oct 26th at McDonald Sport Park.

Start: Staggered starts begin at 11:00am. A start list will be posted by 8:00pm on October 25, 2019 on the OANS website (see below); participants registering on race day will be provided start times at registration.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Point-to-point. A technical forest course, where controls are visited in numerical order. This event will follow ‘A’ meet standards, meaning the event will have a full range of age classes and courses available. The terrain is quite technical, with a mix of rock features, trails, marshes, and subtle (and not-so-subtle) contours. Full leg cover is recommended, as there can be thick vegetation. Course closure: 3:30pm.

Dogs: For safety reasons, dogs or other animals will not be permitted on the courses however are welcome with spectators (with the exception of start, finish and registration areas) if appropriately leashed.

2019 Bluenose Classic Middle Bulletin

Registration

If this is your first event of the year and/or you have not yet paid for the event, you must register at the carpool parking lot at 1311 Prospect Rd before proceeding to the event check-in at the St. Margaret’s Bay Rd (SMBR) parking lot 799 St. Margaret’s Bay Rd.

If you have previously submitted a waiver form for 2019 and are paid (from Saturday’s event) you may proceed to event check-in/download at the SMBR parking lot.

Safety

The course opens at 11am and closes at 3:30pm. This means all participants must return to download by this time; otherwise a search will be initiated.

The course time limit is 1h30, meaning each participant should return to the download no later than 1h30 after their individual start time; otherwise they will be disqualified as over time.

The safety bearing for the course is North (follow the red arrow on your compass).This will take participants out to the St. Margaret’s Bay Road, at which point they should head West (turn left) to return to download.

Swimming is prohibited. Participants will not be required to cross any paved roads or lakes for their course.

Flagging will be present on Course 1 where trails are not obvious to help guide participants to the next control. Please do not remove flagging tape.

Race Procedure

Participants must register and pay at registration.

(Exception: participants who paid on Oct 26th may proceed directly to event check-in/download at SMBR parking lot)

Participants must check-in at the download.

Participants must carry watch, whistle and compass.

Be sure to CLEAR and CHECK your SI stick.

Participants should proceed to the start box to arrive there at least 4 mins before their given start time.

Participants with no start time, and participants who have missed their assigned start time shall proceed to the start area and enter the “late start/same-day registration” line. You will be assigned a start time as one becomes available.

Upon completion or abandonment of the course ALL participants shall proceed to download.

Rented SI sticks shall be returned or the participant will be charged a $45 replacement fee.

Upon event completion, medals will be awarded to standard Classes. Ribbons will be awarded to Short and Open classes.

Start Procedure

4 min prior to start – present yourself at start boxes for check-in;

3 min prior – enter start box, whistle check;

2 min prior – receive control descriptions if desired;

1 min prior receive map/Course 1-3 may view map;

at start beep, punch start and proceed to start triangle.

If late/no start time, do NOT enter start boxes – proceed to late start lineup and await instructions.
